Franz Liszt called the organ « the king of instruments».
Our impressive organ, built in 2005, is also the king of the Philharmonie. With 83 stops, four manuals and pedals, it is its own symphonic ensemble, filling the hall with its substantial power, while amazing audiences with its crystal clarity and light touch. And all the while, its unique red pipe towers watch over the hall, bringing architecture to life in music.
Do you want to get to know Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart up close?
Two of his greatest piano concertos are at the heart of this second concert curated by Mozart expert Kit Armstrong. The Concerto N° 23 in A major is notable for its elegance and tunefulness while the Concerto N° 24 in C minor is contrastingly dark and dramatic. The programme also features the lovely Sinfonia concertante for violin and viola – one of Mozart’s key Salzburg compositions – and the noble Masonic Funeral Music.

Conversation in French
A Syrian trio transcending cultural barriers to bring us closer.
Hewar means «dialogue» in Arabic. And dialogue is at the heart of this trio. Whether between themselves, using their instruments as voices. Between cultural traditions, melding social and political references. Or between musical styles, blending improvised and composed music, and combining classical, jazz and Arabic influences. These performer-composers present a unique exchange of diverse perspectives.
Johann Sebastian Bach: Solosonate N° 1 BWV 1001 Partita N° 1 BWV 1002 Partita N° 2 BWV 1004
Composer George Enescu once dubbed Bach’s solo sonatas and partitas «the Himalayas» for violinists.
What better performer to scale them than Leonidas Kavakos, compared by the media to the legendary virtuoso Niccolò Paganini, aka «The Devil’s Violinist»? Come and hear him play three of these works: the noble First Sonata, the graceful First Partita, and the epic Second Partita whose finale the composer Johannes Brahms described as «earth-shattering».

Richard Strauss: Eine Alpensymphonie
Travel to Central Europe with two unforgettable 20th-century compositions.
Bartók’s adventurous Second Violin Concerto is infused with the folk music of his native Hungary, while Richard Strauss’s picturesque Alpine Symphony depicts an exciting day-long hike in the Bavarian Alps. Rising star Petr Popelka conducts the Luxembourg Philharmonic with violin virtuoso Leonidas Kavakos.
A stormy, two-year romance that made history.
A life fuelled by absinth and opium, where creative frenzy was matched only by violence and erotic tension. A «bad dream» that left neither of the protagonists unscarred. The shocking passion between Belle Époque poets Paul Verlaine et Arthur Rimbaud forms the backdrop of this gripping concert by Jean-François Zygel. Witness words interact with the wordless artform that is music, as the cursed genius of the two literati encounters that of a masterful pianist and improviser.
