BHRAM - The Delusion
A contemporary dance piece by Mihir Grover
Democracy. A promise of freedom, equality, and justice — slipping quietly through our fingers. A system meant to serve the people. By the people. For the people.
Bhram, meaning “Delusion” in Hindi holds up a mirror to a world where truth is under siege and power often serves not the people, but its own survival.
Rooted in personal experience, Bhram is born from choreographer Mihir Grover’s reflections on growing up in India. He believed in the strength of truth, in the right to dissent, in freedom of speech. But in recent years, artists have been jailed for satire, journalists silenced, truths erased.
This erosion is not unique to one country. From the suppression of protests to the global rise of authoritarianism, democracy is in crisis. Populist leaders distoring facts and technology spreading lies faster than truth. On stage the dancers move to embody the tension between control and rebellion, illusion and clarity. Bhram is a reminder that democracies rarely collapse overnight — they erode quietly, from within.
